Baseball's Zucker Named NJAC Player of the Week

PITMAN, N.J. (February 20, 2018) – Junior co-captain Ryan Zucker of the Rutgers University-Newark baseball team was named the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Player of the Week, it was announced Tuesday afternoon by the league office.

Zucker led Rutgers-Newark to a split against nationally-ranked Roanoke College in the Scarlet Raiders' first two games of the 2018 season.

The Mountainside, N.J. native went 5-for-9 in the two games as R-N won the opener 8-6 and dropped the nightcap, 9-1.

In the opener, Zucker went 3-for-5 with two runs, two doubles, a walk and an RBI, and in the second contest he went 2-for-4 with a run scored and was also hit by a pitch.

For the weekend, Zucker hit .556 with seven total bases, getting on base at a .636 clip. He slugged .778 to finish with an OPS of 1.404 out of the leadoff spot, and played left field for the first time in his collegiate career.

The Scarlet Raiders will return to action in North Carolina this weekend with a single game against the College of New Rochelle Friday and a doubleheader against CNR and Frostburg State University Saturday.
