ANTHONY GIACHIN WAS SELECTED THE ROOKIE OF THE WEEK BY THE PATRIOT LEAGUE

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Army West Point baseball took two of the three weekly awards announced Monday by the Patriot League.
 

Jacob Hurtubise was tabbed the conference player of the week, while Anthony Giachin was selected the rookie of the week. Both earned their first weekly praise.
 
Hurtubise batted .600 (6-for-10), while slugging .900 and reaching base at a .733 clip during Army's 3-0 weekend. The sophomore centerfielder scored eight runs, drove in two and was 3-for-3 on stolen base attempts. He went 3-for-4 with four runs, an RBI and a double in Friday's 11-7 win over Bryant. The Zionsville, Ind., native then was 2-for-3 with two runs and two walks with three stolen bases in Saturday's 9-5 victory over Niagara. He finished his weekend going 1-for-3 with two runs scored in Sunday's 11-1 win over Boston College.
 
Giachin batted .538 (7-for-13) with two multi-hit games and three RBIs to help the Black Knights as well. The freshman infielder went 4-for-5 in a win vs. Bryant on Friday. Giachin then drove in one run and walked once, while going 1-for-4 in Saturday's win over Niagara. The Newark, N.J., native closed his weekend going 2-for-4 with two RBIs in the win over the Eagles.
 
These two currently sit second and third on the team with an average of .341 and .333, respectively. Hurtubise leads the Cadets in hits (14) and runs (12), while Giachin is tied for third in hits with 12.
 
The Army squad is back in action this weekend when it heads to Florida to begin its 10-day spring break trip. That Black Knights will first meet up with Rutgers on Friday for a three-game neutral site series with the Scarlet Knights. That contest is slated for 7 p.m. with live stats available at first pitch.
